Silence

Living in a family of 7, I rarely ever experience any silence. Whether it's a dog barking, a baby screaming, or the T.V. singing some Disney princess theme song, there's always some kind of nosie going on in my house. Most of the time I'm dying to get some quiet, but I still think silence can be awkward at times. I'm very talkative and most people who meet me would classify me as a very friendly person, but even I have been in situations with people I don't know where everyone will stop talking, and there's a moment of "awkward silence". It's always uncomfortable when you don't know someone very well, and you run out of things to talk about. I do feel people insist upon talking to fill the silence with the comforting sound of their own voice, even if they blurt out something completly random or pointless. I think silence can help us as listeners because it helps us to pay attention and be mindful of what others are saying so we can have something to respond with and avoid awkward silences.
